Social exclusion : Social exclusion also known as social marginalization is the process in which individuals or people are systematically blocked from (or denied full access to ) various rights, opportunities and resources that are normally available to members of a different group, and which are fundamental to social integration and observance of human rights within that within that particular group.
Social exclusion can be connected to a person’s social class, race, skin colour, religious affiliation, ethnic origin, educational status, childhood relationships, living standards or appearance. Such exclusionary forms of discrimination may also apply to people with a disability, minorities, Transgender people, drug users etc.
Social exclusion, on another analysis is the process of relegation of individuals or social groups to the fringe of society; they are systematically blocked from (or denied full access to) various rights, opportunities and resources that are normally available to members of mainstream groups and which are fundamental to social integration within these groups (e.g. housing, employment, healthcare, democratic participation). People with disabilities are among the most vulnerable groups who are at the risk of social exclusion.
Social Inclusion: Social Inclusion, the converse of social Exclusion, is affirmative action to change the circumstances and habits that lead to social exclusion.
Social Inclusion can be defined as a process in which efforts are made to ensure equal opportunities for all, regardless of their background, be it money, class, ethnicity, gender, race orwathever the index of diversity. Efforts are made to enable full and active participation in all aspects of life, including social, economic and political activities, as well as participation in decision-making processes.
An Inclusive society means that it understands, accepts and respects diversity, it not only recognizes diversity but also embodies it so that each member of a diverse society can achieve their potential in life.
